The Saturday that
belongs to everyone.

Carers Heart Connect started because of a gap nobody was filling. NDIS funding covers school hours. It does not cover the afternoon, the weekend, or the long stretch of a school holiday — and in a family where both parents work, that gap is carried entirely by the parents.
So we opened a Saturday. Once a month, participants aged 9 through to young adults come together for a day of activities and a shared meal. Their parents come too — and while the young people are occupied, the parents get something they almost never get: a few hours off, in a room full of people who don't need any of it explained.
It has run every month for two years. Camps, a Korean-style sports day, cooking, outings, art, music. It is free, it has always been free, and it stays free because we run it as a non-profit program in partnership with Young Artist World.
You don't have to be a Carers Heart participant to come. You just have to turn up.

Coming next — Connect for adults living with acquired disability
A stroke, an accident, an illness in your forties or fifties — the disability arrives in the middle of a life already built, and almost nothing in the system is designed for that. We are building a separate Connect for this group, run at a different time with different company, because sitting in a room designed for children and their parents is not what these adults need.
